Social-Emotional Learning Is Essential

Emotional regulation in children is an essential skill that empowers them to tackle everyday challenges with confidence. By mastering the art of managing their emotions, children can effectively engage in metacognitive thinking and cultivate resilience when faced with adversity. Consistent practice in emotional handling equips them with a robust foundation, preparing them to in all of life's circumstances.

Our Proactive Approach

The Five Quotients

Intelligence: A child's cognitive abilities, in particular language and arithmetic. By encouraging students to solve with strategy, teaches children to look at problems from various angels and different solutions. Spiritual: Quality that helps the inner-wellbeing by restoring balance to the mind and body. Students use breathing techniques to reconnect the mind and body to attain self-confidence, trust and happiness. Creativity: Being creative allows children freedom to take risks and explore new ways of doing things. By challenging assumptions, allowing to make mistakes, and encouraging to explore, students are given the ability to think innovatively. Adversity: Resilience during unexpected setbacks. When children are faced with problems, providing adequate space and time to solve their own situation help them realize their ability to improve situations independently. Emotional: The capability to identify, assess and manage emotions. By accepting and acknowledging feelings, students can discern feelings by words and actions, learning respect and empathy, in all creating more meaningful relationships.

RYGB Zones

Feelings are complicated. They come in different sizes, intensities, and levels of energy that are unique within our brains and bodies. To make them easier to talk about, think about, and regulate, The Zones of Regulation organizes our feelings, states of alertness, and energy levels into four colored Zones – Blue, Green, Yellow, and Red. The simple, common language and visual structure of The Zones of Regulation helps make the complex skill of regulation more concrete for learners and those who support them. We learn to regulate our Zones by understanding that children go through various emotions and navigating and understanding all emotions are normal.

Self-Regulation

The Safe Place is important because it gives the child the power and the opportunity to learn how to self-regulate. It is not time out, much like most of us know or use in the sense of punishment, but a safe environment to learn how to handle difficult emotions. The Safe Place teaches the child that it is acceptable to feel, but that in being angry, sad, tired or over stimulated we must all handle the emotion correctly.

Parent-teacher collaboration is crucial because it allows for a unified approach to supporting a student's learning, leading to improved academic performance, better social-emotional development, and a more positive learning environment by enabling open communication, early identification of challenges, and tailored support strategies that address individual student needs both at home and at school.
